The Grant Proposal – Essaylink

Draft 1.1: The Grant Proposal
This assignment asks you to identify a grant opportunity within your proposed research area (the NSF funding page is a good resource), and to write a proposal for that grant. Your research proposal should introduce your topic and lay out the justifications for your research to a panel of judges, all scientists but with varying degrees of specific expertise on your subject. It will not be sufficient to simply describe your project; the best proposals attempt the following (not necessarily in this order):
● Choose a topic that is dynamic and complex, and whose meaning or significance to the world is sufficient for you to write about extensively
● Briefly survey the existing scholarship related to the topic
● identify a problem, need, or gap in the existing scholarship, and demonstrate the significance/stakes of addressing this problem
● tailor its narrative to position the researcher and project as uniquely capable of meeting that need
