Business and the Natural Environment

Task Description: For a responsible company, critically evaluate the environmental effectiveness of their sustainability strategy. In order to complete the task, you will need to evaluate the company’s strategy in relation to one or more of the nine ‘planetary boundaries’. The responsible company should be a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD): https://www.wbcsd.org/Overview/Our-members The report must have the following sections:

1. Introduction 10% 2. Environmental focus 30% 3. Critical evaluation 30% 4. Recommendations 30% The percentages above indicate how much of the report should be dedicated to each section. Further Guidance: Below is a guide to what should be included in each section of the report. 1. Introduction This section should be 10% of the report (~250 words). This must present the following: • Choice of company and rationale for choice • Data used for analysis and rationale for choice

2. Environmental focus This section should be 30% of the report (~750 words). This section should present the planetary boundary or boundaries that will be used for the critical evaluation. The rational for the choice of boundary/ies should be made. Relevant literature needs to be cited.

3. Critical evaluation This section should be 30% of the report (~750 words). This section should present the following: • The company’s sustainability strategy in relation to the planetary boundary/ies presented in section two. • Your evaluation of the environmental effectiveness of the company’s strategy in relation to the planetary boundary/ies.

4. Recommendations This section should be 30% of the report (~750 words). This section should present your recommendations for making the company’s sustainability more environmentally effective in relation to the planetary boundary/ies presented in section two. The recommendations should be clearly stated and realistic. It is advised that you make no more than three recommendations so that you can present your ideas in sufficient depth. You may believe that the company’s strategy is environmentally effective and cannot be improved in any way. If that is the case, you can recommend that they continue Business and the Natural Environment BUS3036M 12 with their current strategy but you will need to explain why you believe this is the best approach for them to take.
